SOUTH AFRICAN EMBASSY ADVERTISEMENT FOR VACANT POST OF TRANSLATOR
The position of Translator, with the job description and minimum requirements as listed below, is hereby advertised:
Salary Scale: 643,447 AD per annum exclusive of benefits
Job Description :
• Serve as interpreter;
• Translate texts to and from French, Arabic, Spanish and English, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained;
• Monitor and liaise with local media;
• Compile reports; Relay the style and tone of the original language;
• Research phraseology to find the correct translation;
• Liaise with clients to discuss any unclear points;
• Proofread and edit final translated versions;
• Providing clients with a grammatically correct, well-expressed final version of the translated text, usually as a word-processed document;
• Use the internet and email as research tools throughout the translation process;
• Retain and develop knowledge on specialist areas of translation;
• Use appropriate software for presentation and delivery; and
• Support Mission’s image building strategy including on social media.
Minimum requirements :
• A relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with English, French or Arabic as main subjects plus 5 years experience as translator from local language/s to English and vice versa. Preference will be given to candidates who are registered as translators;
• Proficiency in English, French, Spanish and Arabic (Written and verbal);
• A good understanding and in-depth knowledge of Algerian culture and language;
• Subject matter knowledge;
• Excellent writing skills and command of grammar in English, French, Spanish and Arabic;
• Good organisational skills, attention to detail combined with the ability to work quickly to meet deadlines;
• Proficiency in the use of a range of computer packages.
